One Year Guarantee on Trees and Shrubs

Holdridge Home and Garden provides a one-year guarantee on Trees and Shrubs valid from the date of purchase.

Should you have any concerns regarding the care of your tree or shrub, please consult our professionals.

Proper Plant Care and Placement

Selecting an appropriate location for your plant is essential. Consider each plant’s specific requirements, such as sun or shade preference, moisture levels, and deer resistance. Be mindful of the plant’s mature size to ensure it will suit the intended space throughout its life span.

We are pleased to assist with planting any specimen from our nursery that you wish to add to your property and will offer expert guidance as needed.

However, certain locations are not conducive to healthy growth. We cannot guarantee plantings in the root zones of large canopy trees, sandy soils, or gravel areas. Additionally, we advise against planting within 15 feet of major roads, as treatments can negatively impact plant vitality. Plantings in these higher – risk zones are not covered by our guarantee, and customers assuming these sites accept full responsibility.

Initial Planting Guidelines for Trees and Shrubs

If your tree or shrub is not going into the ground immediately then it should be watered daily in the pot until planting.  Plant material should be in the ground a maximum 3 days after purchase.

Plant material in the yard at Holdridge Home and Garden is accustomed to being watered every other day. Once planted in the ground the watering schedule should be shifted to two to three times per week. Ideally plant material should be watered deeply, soaking the entire planting zone. Watering thoroughly encourages a healthy, deep root system to support a strong specimen. Dry-out days are important to allow roots to seek moisture and nutrition in the soil and to prevent root rot.

*****Pro Tip*****    Evaluate moisture by placing a hand on top of the soil. Alternatively, a soil moisture probe or finger may be placed directly into the ground. If the soil is cool and moist then watering may be skipped that day.

During times of extreme heat/drought, plants may need extra water. It is always recommended to evaluate soil moisture as too much water is just as detrimental to plants as not enough water, and soil composition affects moisture retention and drainage.

To ensure the best possible outcome for all plant material, dig a hole two to three times the size of the root ball and prepare the hole with amendments. Fafard Planting Mix is our preferred brand of soil amendment, using one bag per tree or one bagper four to six shrubs. We do not recommend amending over 50% of native soil for any new plants. Along with the appropriate planting mix, we also recommend initial planting with Espoma Bio-Tone Starter with mycorrhizae to encourage root development and nutrient uptake.

*****Pro Tip*****  We recommend Espoma products for fertilizing trees, shrubs and perennials at the appropriate times during the season for optimal plant performance. For example we use Espoma Rose Tone in March / April to help feed the roses as they come out of dormancy. This will encourage stronger new growth and multiple blooms for your season.  Hydrangeas, flowering perennials, flowering ornamental trees, etc. will get an application of Espoma Flower Tone.  We use Holly Tone for Hollies, Azaleas, and Rhododendrons, etc.  We have an Espoma Product for all your plant needs.
