English Ivy (Hedera helix)

Sun Needs:

• Part shade to full shade (Can tolerate some sun, especially in cooler climates, but prefers shade)

Bloom Time:

• Late summer to early fall (Flowers are insignificant and rarely appear on young plants)

Size:

Height: 6 to 12 inches (as groundcover). Up to 50 feet or more when climbing
Width: Spreads indefinitely under the right conditions

Attributes:

• Evergreen foliage for year-round interest
• Excellent groundcover or climber
• Low maintenance once established
• Deer and drought tolerant
• Air-purifying qualities when used indoors
• Can be invasive in some areas – best managed in containers or controlled beds
• Roots cling tightly to surfaces, which can damage wood, stucco, or mortar

• Hosta – broad-leafed texture pairs well in shaded gardens
• Ferns – lacy foliage and similar growing conditions
• Coral Bells (Heuchera) – colorful foliage adds contrast
• Lamium – groundcover with variegated leaves and spring blooms
