Gayfeather (Liatris spicata)

Gayfeather, also known as Blazing Star, is a native North American perennial prized for its tall, spiky purple or white flower wands that bloom from top to bottom—unlike most flower spikes. Its vertical form adds striking texture and height to borders and prairie-style gardens. Gayfeather is beloved by pollinators, especially butterflies and bees, and also makes an excellent cut flower. Tolerant of heat, drought, and poor soils once established, it’s a hardy, low-maintenance addition to sunny landscapes.
